What determines your broadband speed?

Distance from the exchange

Near your business, there will be an exchange in which your internet will be connected to; running from the exchange box into the physical building itself. The distance between this exchange and your building will impact the speed of your broadband, the further away you are, the slower the connection.

Phone line quality

The connection is made by using the same copper wiring that a phone line uses, the strength of this copper wiring can be recognised on the phone line by the cracking noises when making a call. Having a strong phone line connected to the local exchange will mean a stable connection for both the phone line but also for the strength and consistency of the broadband.

Bad weather and electrical interference

The average rainy day shouldn’t be too much of an issue for a standard broadband connection, however, a large storm will be a cause of concern. The copper wire won’t have a problem with bad weather due to its insulation and running underground. The problem will most likely occur at either end; the exchange or your property. Similarly to satellite television; bad weather can interrupt and interfere with the stability of your broadband internet connection.

Other appliances and devices that use electricity can also cause electrical interference, the physical local of these appliances and your phone line and router comes into play here. Boilers, water heaters and refridgerators are prime culprits, it is best to try and avoid close proximity of these and your phone line and broadband router.

Up to 24mb

Our up to 24mb service is a high speed option and we recommend this service for a business that is operating with 3-5 consistent users that will be; downloading files, using devices with WiFi and using video conference calls. This is a popular option for many SME’s as it is cost-effective and a standard broadband service that is consistent and strong enough to support the needs of a business this size.

Up to 80mb

Our up to 80mb package is considered our superfast option; the best choice for any SME that has 5-10 broadband users that will be using the internet more intensely. This would include; people streaming video, using a file sharing system for documents, images and video files, and using a point of sale system (POS). To ensure your business runs efficiently, the higher speed is needed to avoid any delay or lag in the use of the broadband. It also offers a more effective upload speed range too, improving the use of a online file sharing system.
